Tales of Tanzania Safaris is a locally owned, family-run safari company based in Arusha. But our story began long before the company itself — with a family growing up near Mount Kilimanjaro and an opportunity our father saw in Tanzania’s tourism industry.
Today, those beginnings shape the way we design every journey: personally, thoughtfully and with a deep connection to the country we call home.

OUR STORY BEGAN LONG BEFORE TALES OF TANZANIA
The story of Tales of Tanzania Safaris did not begin on the day the company was founded. Our family’s connection to tourism — and to this part of Tanzania — goes back much further.
Our story begins with our father.
While raising our family, he supplied beef to a hotel in Moshi that was owned by a Mount Kilimanjaro climbing company. Because the hotel was closely connected to climbing operations, guides, porters and mountain crews were a familiar part of life there. Through his work, our father regularly crossed paths with the people whose livelihoods were connected to tourism.
He saw something in that world: opportunity.
He saw local people building careers and supporting their families through tourism, and he began to imagine that his own children might one day find their future there too. Education was deeply important to him, and he encouraged us to study tourism and hospitality and to learn an industry that was growing right on our doorstep, beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.
At the time, none of us could have known where that encouragement would eventually lead.
LEARNING THE INDUSTRY FROM EVERY ANGLE
That encouragement eventually led members of our family to study tourism and hospitality and to begin building careers in the industry.
But our experience did not begin behind a desk.
Some of our earliest work was on Mount Kilimanjaro, where we worked as porters and learned firsthand what it takes to support travellers through demanding journeys. From there, our paths developed through guiding, sales, operations and other roles with established tourism companies.
Those years gave us an understanding of tourism from many different sides — not only what guests see, but also the planning, teamwork and responsibility that sit behind every successful journey.
They also taught us something that still shapes the way we work today: no two travellers experience Tanzania in quite the same way.
2020 — A TURNING POINT
WHEN ONE CHAPTER ENDED, ANOTHER BEGAN
Then came 2020.
The pandemic brought international tourism almost to a standstill, and like many people working in the industry, we suddenly found ourselves facing an uncertain future.
For our family, it became a turning point.
Rather than walking away from the industry that had shaped so much of our working lives, we decided to bring our experience together, invest our savings and build something of our own.
And so, Tales of Tanzania Safaris was born.

The experiences that brought us here continue to shape the way we approach every journey.
We believe an itinerary should give your safari structure without taking away the freedom to experience Tanzania as it unfolds. Sometimes that means leaving before sunrise. Sometimes it means staying with an extraordinary wildlife sighting rather than rushing to the next planned stop. And sometimes it simply means slowing down.
That is why our safaris are private and thoughtfully designed around the people travelling with us — their interests, their pace and the experiences that matter most to them.
Our guides bring local knowledge and experience to every journey, while the team behind the scenes takes care of the details that allow our guests to simply enjoy being here.
Because to us, Tanzania is more than a destination. It is the place we call home.
