7 DAYS FAMILY TANZANIA SAFARI

A relaxed private family safari through Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro

Day 1 – Arrival in Tanzania

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where your private driver will meet your family and transfer you to Arusha.

There is no sightseeing or additional activity planned today. The evening is simply about arriving, settling in and getting a good night’s rest before the safari begins.

Drive: Kilimanjaro Airport → Arusha | Approx. 55 km | 1–1.5 hours
Accommodation: Arusha Planet Lodge
Meals: Dinner

Day 2 – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, meet your private safari guide and begin your journey towards Tarangire National Park.

The drive from Arusha takes approximately two hours. Once inside the park, the safari begins at a relaxed pace, with time to explore the areas around the Tarangire River and look for the park’s famous elephant herds, giraffe, zebra, buffalo and other wildlife.

Rather than trying to add another activity after the game drive, continue to Burunge Tented Camp in the afternoon, where the family can settle in and enjoy a relaxed evening.

Drive: Arusha → Tarangire | Approx. 110 km | 2–2.5 hours
Accommodation: Burunge Tented Camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 3 – Journey to the Serengeti

After breakfast, begin the journey towards the Serengeti.

The route takes you through the Ngorongoro Highlands before descending towards the vast plains of the Serengeti. Once inside the national park, the journey itself becomes part of the safari, with your guide able to stop whenever wildlife or an interesting sighting appears along the way.

Arrive at Heritage Camp and settle in for your first evening in the Serengeti.

There is no need to rush to fit in a long afternoon game drive. The family can simply enjoy the camp and rest after the journey.

Drive: Tarangire → Serengeti | Approx. 180–200 km | 4–5 hours, excluding wildlife stops
Accommodation: Heritage Camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 4 – Full Day in the Serengeti

Today is deliberately left open.

Enjoy a full day exploring the Serengeti with your private guide, with the flexibility to shape the day around the family.

You can start with an early morning game drive, return to camp for breakfast and some downtime, then head out again later in the day. Alternatively, if everyone is enjoying the morning, you can stay out longer with a picnic lunch.

The beauty of a private family safari is that there is no need to follow a group schedule. If the children need a slower morning, you can slow down. If there is exciting wildlife, you can stay with it.

Accommodation: Heritage Camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 5 – Serengeti to Ngorongoro

Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti before beginning the journey towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

There is no need to make this morning overly ambitious. Enjoy the wildlife around you and then continue towards the highlands.

Arrive at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge on the crater rim and settle in for the evening.

We have specifically chosen a crater-rim lodge for this part of the journey. Ngorongoro is at high altitude and temperatures can be quite cool, particularly in the evening and early morning. The Serena lodge sits directly on the crater rim and offers comfortable accommodation with modern amenities. Serena Hotels

Drive: Central Serengeti → Ngorongoro | Approx. 145 km | 3–4 hours, excluding wildlife stops
Accommodation: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 6 – Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a morning game drive.

The crater offers an extraordinary concentration of wildlife within its natural walls, and the morning is dedicated to exploring the crater floor at a comfortable pace.

Enjoy a picnic lunch during the crater visit before gradually making your way out of the conservation area and towards Karatu.

Later in the afternoon, arrive at Eileen’s Trees Inn, where the family can relax and enjoy a quieter evening after the crater experience.

Drive: Ngorongoro → Karatu | Approx. 45–60 minutes after the crater visit
Accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn
Meals: Breakfast, picnic lunch & dinner

Day 7 – Departure

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before your private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.

If your flight departs later in the day, we can simply adjust the departure time so the morning remains relaxed rather than adding another activity.

Drive: Karatu → Kilimanjaro International Airport | Approx. 210 km | 4–4.5 hours
Accommodation: None – end of safari
Meals: Breakfast
