5 DAYS TANZANIA SAFARI
For travellers with limited time who still want to experience the heart of Northern Tanzania, this private 5 day Tanzania safari brings together Tarangire, two nights in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater without trying to squeeze too much into the journey.
You will have your own private 4×4 vehicle and guide throughout, allowing the days to remain flexible around wildlife, your interests and your preferred pace.
Day 1: Tarangire National Park
Your safari begins this morning when your private guide collects you from your hotel in Arusha and you set off for Tarangire National Park.
The landscape begins changing as you leave the city behind, passing villages and open countryside before reaching Tarangire — a beautiful introduction to Tanzania’s northern safari circuit.
Known for its ancient baobab trees and impressive elephant population, Tarangire also supports lion, giraffe, zebra, buffalo and an extraordinary variety of birdlife. Much of the wildlife activity centres around the Tarangire River and surrounding plains.
Enjoy a game drive and a hot lunch where possible before continuing your exploration during the afternoon.
Later, leave the park and travel to Karatu. Staying here tonight positions you well for tomorrow’s journey through the Ngorongoro Highlands and into the Serengeti without adding unnecessary driving today.
Drive: Arusha → Tarangire | Approx. 110 km | 2–2.5 hours
Tarangire → Karatu: Approx. 70 km | 1.5–2 hours
Accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn
Meals: Lunch & dinner
Day 2: Journey to the Serengeti
After an early breakfast, travel through the Ngorongoro Highlands and continue towards the legendary Serengeti.
The journey is wonderfully scenic, and as the highlands gradually give way to the vast plains, you begin to understand where the Serengeti’s name — often translated as endless plains — comes from.
Once you enter Serengeti National Park, the journey becomes part of your game drive. There is no need to race towards camp. Your guide can stop for wildlife, photography and anything interesting you encounter along the way.
Arrive at your tented camp later in the day and settle in for your first evening in the Serengeti.
Drive: Karatu → Central Serengeti | Approx. 205 km | 4–5 hours, excluding wildlife stops
Accommodation: Tukaone Weavers Camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Day 3: Central Serengeti – Full Day
Today belongs entirely to the Serengeti.
There is deliberately no rigid timetable. You may head out early while the plains are cool and wildlife is active, enjoy breakfast at camp before starting your game drive, return for lunch and some relaxation, or spend the whole day exploring with a picnic.
Central Serengeti’s grasslands, rocky kopjes and river valleys provide habitat for an extraordinary variety of wildlife. Lion, elephant, giraffe, cheetah and many other species may be encountered, while the riverine areas are particularly rewarding places to search for leopard.
And if you find something special, there is no need to hurry away. This is your private safari, and sometimes the best thing you can do is simply switch off the engine and watch.
Return to camp later in the day for dinner and another night surrounded by the sounds of the Serengeti.
Accommodation: Tukaone Weavers Camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro
There is no rush to leave the Serengeti this morning.
Depending on what you have experienced during the previous days and what is happening in the area, you may head out early for another game drive or enjoy a more relaxed morning before gradually beginning the journey towards Ngorongoro.
If your guide knows of interesting wildlife activity nearby, there is time to explore. The itinerary gives us direction, but it does not need to dictate every hour of your safari.
Later, begin travelling towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, continuing to enjoy wildlife along the way.
Arrive near the crater rim later in the day and settle into camp for dinner and overnight.
Why stay here tonight? Your accommodation is deliberately positioned close to the crater descent road, allowing you to enter Ngorongoro early tomorrow morning rather than spending valuable game-viewing time driving from farther away.
Drive: Central Serengeti → Ngorongoro | Approx. 145 km | 3–4 hours, excluding wildlife stops
Accommodation: Ang’ata Ngorongoro Camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Tour End
Start early this morning and make the short drive to the crater descent road before descending approximately 600 metres to the Ngorongoro Crater floor.
An early descent allows you to begin exploring while the air is still cool and before the crater becomes busier later in the morning.
Spend up to six hours exploring with your private guide. The crater’s grasslands, woodland, wetlands and lake support an extraordinary concentration of wildlife, including lion, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, hyena and large bull elephants. With some luck, you may also encounter the endangered black rhino.
Enjoy lunch during your time in the crater before ascending in the early afternoon and beginning the journey back to Arusha.
We do not add another park today simply to make the itinerary look fuller. Ngorongoro deserves the morning, and afterwards the journey back to Arusha can be enjoyed at a comfortable pace.
Drive: Ngorongoro → Arusha | Approx. 190 km | 3.5–4 hours
Meals: Breakfast & lunch
Accommodation: None – end of safari
